"Global Threat" will be available for a minimum donation of $1.00
Cumbancha and Sierra Leone’s Refugee All Stars are donating 100% of the proceeds of an early release of the song "Global Threat" from the forthcoming album Rise & Shine to the International Rescue Committee (www.theirc.org) for their Haitian earthquake relief efforts. Founded in 1933, the IRC is a not-for-profit organization dedicated to providing humanitarian aid, relief, and resettlement to refugees and other victims of oppression or violent conflict.
"Global Threat" will be available for a minimum donation of $1.00, although people are encouraged to contribute as much as they can. People who donate $100 or more will receive a physical and digital copy of the full Rise & Shine album as soon as they are available, weeks before the album's official release date on March 23rd, 2010.
Filmmaker and band co-manager Zach Niles, whose award-winning documentary Sierra Leone's Refugee All Stars captured the group’s journey from Guinean refugee camps to the recording of their first album, is in Haiti now to support Haitian journalists in their efforts to tell the story of the earthquake from a local perspective.
NEW ALBUM: “Rise & Shine” coming out on March 23, 2010!
Sierra Leone’s Refugee All Stars New Album “Rise & Shine” coming March 23
This past summer the All Stars headed to New Orleans to record the follow up to their acclaimed "Living Like A Refugee" debut album. With producer Steve Berlin (of Los Lobos) at the helm, and with guest spots from New Orleans stars; Trombone Shorty, Washboard Chaz and the Bonerama Horns adding NOLA spice, the band have created a beautiful musical statement that is both true to their traditions and roots in the hardscrabble slums of Sierra Leone but is infused throughout with a sense of optimism and musical exploration.
Keeping checking in for sneak previews, video from the studio, chances to get a prerelease album and more!
